IS A COORDINATED STRIKE THE RIGHT TACTIC?

Many of us have experimented with a variety of tactics to fight back: protests, boycotts, legislative efforts. All of these are important tools, but they haven’t delivered the changes we need to win a world where people can thrive, not just survive.

But as working people, we have a key point of leverage: The billionaire class depends on our labor.

Jeff Bezos didn’t pack, sort, and ship your order before it arrived at your doorstep — working people did. The same is true in every industry and workplace across the country: Our work keeps everything running. That means that we as working people have tremendous power. If we collectively withholdour labor, we can stop the flow of profits and force the billionaire class to the table.

Alone, the boss can easily retaliate against anyone who stands up for their rights — anyone they deem a “troublemaker.” Together, we shift the balance of power in our favor: They can’t fire us all.

Coordinating contracts sets the stage for high profile, public fights against the billionaire class. It also opens the door to shared demands – like a shorter workweek for the same pay. And it puts pressure on politicians – in an election year – to deliver serious change for working people.
